The Florida Star
In April 2020, The Florida Star celebrated its 69th anniversary. The Florida Star, was founded on April 15, 1951 by Eric O. Simpson, the first African American inducted into The Florida Press Association Hall of Fame.
Today, the newspaper is under the ownership and publisher Clara McLaughlin.
The Florida and Georgia Star, are committed to providing you with the latest and most accurate news possible that affects the African American Community. That is how we became Northeast Florida’s oldest African-American – owned newspaper with the most news and the largest circulation. We now have a subsidiary, The Georgia Star.
We are fully aware that our accomplishments are not only due to our hard-working staff, but we grew and prospered also because of you who gave us loyal support along the way. Again, thank you for your patronage. We look forward to serving you for many, many more years to come.
